the obverse inscribed Scottish Football Association in blue enamelled lettering around a pierced oval depicting a lion rampant, beneath a thistle motif, the reverse inscribed CELTIC F..C. RUNNERS UP. H. MARSHALL 1903, in sterling silver and on silver link chain

Note: Henry Marshall represented a number of different teams, though had his longest spells with Hearts (1896-99, loaned to Blackburn Rovers during this period), and Celtic (1899-1903). It was during his time in the Hoops, he helped the team to Scottish Cup triumph (1900).

This interesting and curious early medal is struck in silver and marked for 'Runners Up'.
