coronation of an Oba (King) in Benin.
The palm tree is climbed by the heir
apparent on his way to his coronation, the
leopard represents the king himself and is
standing atop a python which is the
symbol of Olokun (the god of water)
symbolising that the Oba is both king of
land and sea
