The "Charles Doig Memorial Collection"

Charles Doig, who designed and improved more than 95 of Scotland’s Distilleries, was

truly one of Scotch Whiskies greatest heroes. During his lifetime his famous "pagoda"

design was adopted by almost every distillery in Scotland. Today, 58 of them still

remain, proudly symbolising his genius, yet his talents until now have never been

officially recognised.

In an effort to redress this misdemeanour, last October, Richard Paterson, Master Blender

of Whyte & MacKay organised a Distillery Walk from Fettercairn Distillery to Auchblae

Distillery (designed by Doig in 1896).

Every Distillery Manager invited was asked to bring along a special Single Malt from

their distillery. With the funds raised from this unique collection it is hoped that a

memorial will be erected to Charles Doig that will be housed in The Scotch Whisky

Heritage Centre, Edinburgh. Highland Spirit Ltd., Elgin have been specially

commissioned to design a "Pagoda Head Memorial", an appropriate tribute to this

unsung hero.
