486 Believed Recovered From Wreck of The Firth of Cromarty-Late

19th Century

The Firth of Cromarty sank 27th August, 1898 south of Corsewall

Point, bound for New South Wales. The general cargo which

included a large quantity of whisky was salvaged just before she

sank.

Hand blown bottle. Driven cork, embossed lead capsule with coat of

arms on top, with small tear from base to half way up the neck. The

producers name, although embossed in the capsule is illegible. The

condition of the glass indicates that the bottle has spent a long

period of time in sea water. Level: high neck fill

Dunville & Co. Limited, Belfast in their own warehouses. Good

main label, crescent shaped shoulder label discoloured and torn on

right. Rear label of analysis by The Lancet dated 19 Feb 1908 and

14 March 1914. Driven cork, embossed lead capsule punctured on

top and with small section missing at rear though unbroken. Level:
