Note: This is the second bottle of unlabelled “The Macallan-60-year-old” to be offered at auction with the opportunity for the purchaser to work with the distillery team to create a bespoke one of a kind label.   Master Distiller, David Robertson and Mick McKee, Design Director will host a mutually convenient visit to the distillery to meet with the purchaser to develop and design this unique label.   A range tasting of The Macallan including the 60 year-old will be conducted to help provide inspiration

The illustration of this lot shows the naked bottle and a design style that may provide inspiration to the purchaser, a number of further ideas have been developed that will be available for the meeting

The bottle will be available approximately eight weeks after the approval of the label design, shipping will be arranged by The Macallan Distillers Ltd., to any worldwide destination  specified by the buyer, insured by and at the expense of  The Macallan Distillers Ltd.

Tasting Note and History: Only 40 bottles of The Macallan 60 year-old were produced and a very select few remain to be released.    This offering is the oldest known single malt in the world and is incredibly rich, resinous, spicy and woody with a treacle toffee after taste balancing the rich dried fruit.   A 60 year-old Macallan sold for a (then) world record price of £13,200 at a Christie’s auction in 1996

To date, 12 bottles of 60 year-old Macallan have been labelled with an illustration by Peter Blake in 1986 with a further 12 labelled with an illustration by the contemporary Italian artist Valerio Adami in 1993.   The Macallan currently holds bottle Number 01 of the Blake
edition in its extensive archive with all other bottles held in private
collections around the world, in Japan, Italy, Singapore, USA, England and of course in Scotland
