Provenance: Sold on the instructions of the subject’s niece.
Ian M. Moffatt-Pender who, during the First World War learned Gaelic from his trench soldiers of The Seaforth Highlanders, went on to gain the accolade of ‘National Bard’ [of Scotland]. He personally funded many Gaelic speaking Western Highlanders through The University of Glasgow and represented the Western Isles as Member of Parliament.
Associates of Ian Moffatt-Pender described him as generous and of exceedingly ‘large’ character.
