Note: Painter and printmaker, notable for his portraits and equestrian subjects, born in London where he mainly worked. Whiting studied at St John’s Wood School of Art, Royal Academy Schools and Académie Julian, Paris. During the civil wars in China, 1900–1, Whiting drew for The Graphic, also covering the 1904–5 Russo-Japanese War. Showed at RA, also NPS, RP, RI and RWS, all of which he was a member. Among his foreign awards was a silver medal at Paris Salon in 1926 and a bronze medal at Anglo-German Exhibition, 1913. Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, holds his work.
