It was also customary for bachelors on the station to return hospitality by joining together to give a bachelors' Ball. In Simla the wealthier bachelors and grass widowers formed 'The Order of the Black Hearts' and threw extravagant balls as well as a childrens' fancy-dress paty that were the high spots of the Simla season. There was also the 'Gloom Club' which gave elaborate 'mourning parties'.
