Lot 37 Details

* JAMES WATT RGI (b 1931 - ), CLYDE CRANES oil on canvas, signed, 90cm x 120cm (approx. 36 x 48 inches) Framed Note: James Watt was born in Port Glasgow in 1931. His father was a riveter and from an early age he was immersed in the life of the docks. He trained at Glasgow School of Art from 1950 to 1954 under David Donaldson, with fellow students including James Morrison and Alasdair Gray. Like many artists his inspiration came from the life around him and the dockyards and shipping of the river Clyde. Much of the heavy industry has now declined, and a way of life is now lost to time. This is a fine example of Scotland's maritime and industrial art. Provenance: J H Carruthers & Co, Monobox Cranes. ''Commissioned by my father and for many years was displayed in his factory outside Glasgow.''

Estimate: £1200 - £1800
Hammer: Unsold
