Coins selling for big bucks at Glasgow auction! The Coins Auction at McTear’s is going from strength to strength, and February’s auction was no exception. The biggest selling lot of the auction was lot 1516, The 2007 Britannia 20th Anniversary Platinum Proof Collection, which exceeded its estimate at £2200.
Silver coins were also selling well, with several groups of coins selling far above estimate. A particular highlight was lot 1509, Twenty Victorian Silver Crowns, which sold for £340 – well over their £100-200 estimate. The USA was also well represented in the auction. Lot 1533, a United States Indian Head Half Eagle coin, and 1538, a United States 1886 Five Dollar Gold Coin each sold for an impressive £260.
The Coins Auction on the 25th March is already shaping up well. For more information on buying or selling coins please contact Elaine Grieve or Sarah Cotter on 0141 810 2880, or email
