The July Rare & Collectable Whisky Auction, Glasgow Another month goes by at McTear’s and another Rare & Collectable Whisky Auction comes around for the whisky and wine buying public to sink their teeth into. There is also the Wine Auction which is held every ten weeks, with some great variety and many bottles just released from bond with some great cognac’s thrown in for good measure. So we shall look at some of the highlights from these upcoming July auctions.

As always The Macallan bottles take pride of place at the summit of any auction and this month is no different. The Macallan Gran Reserva 1979 (lot 999), has an estimate of £800-1000 and has recently seen a jump in its value, will we see some more movement again this month? There will also be the 1957 distillation of the 25 Year Old Anniversary Malt (lot 991), a true classic and with an estimate to match of £1500-2000.

The Rare Malts Selection bottles are becoming even more collectable than ever before, especially those from closed distilleries. This coming auction has a few, the most notable two would be firstly the Brora 24 Year Old (lot 1108), distilled in 1977 and has an estimate of £300-400. The second is from another closed distillery St Magdalene 19 Year Old (lot 1112) this also has an estimate of £300-400.

to Islay where we have two fine examples of the produce of this famous whisky making Island. A bottling we rarely see from Bowmore Distillery, the 1963 30 Year Old (lot 1000), a very famous bottling commemorating the purchase of the distillery by Stanley P. Morrison in 1963, the bottling was released in 1993. Another classic from this iconic distillery is the Black Bowmore, lot 1251 is the second edition of the trio released between the years 1993-1995, the last bottle sold for a record of £4,600. Can this bottle smash this record?

Now onto the Wine Auction that shall quickly follow the Rare & Collectable Whisky Auction. This auction sees may lots of fine Australian red being sold in cases which have come to McTear’s directly from bond. A few of these lots are lot 1449 Virgin Hills 1998 Cabernet / Shiraz / Malbec / Merlot (lot 1449), another being the Deer in Headlights Two Hands Shiraz 2003 (lot 1435).

There are also some classic cognacs going under the hammer, the two most recognisable are lot 1398 The Remy Martin Louis XIII with an estimate of £700-900. The other of the two is the Richard Hennessy Decanter released in 1997 an absolutely beautiful bottle and cognac to match.
So be sure not to miss out and join in, either online throughout the world or here in person at the McTear’s galleries and get your chance to win a few lots of your favourite tipples.
