Note: The Duchess of Montrose was built by William Denny Limited and launched from their Dumbarton yard in 1930. With a passenger carrying capacity of 1900, she sailed from Gourock round Arran and Ailsa Craig and to Ayr and Stranraer. She maintained the Wemyss Bay-Rothesay service during the Second World War when she was painted grey.
This work shows an incident in 1947 when the ship went aground near Kirn and The Duchess of Hamilton came to her assistance..1400
