the eighteenth century green glass bull's eye window panel etched with steel point "From Death's Cold Successive Blasts / The
Morning Sun May Smile / Though Stars In Skies May *** Is /
Robert ***** 1791
"; the lines are taken from the poem "Elegy
on John McLeod
".
Inscription verso declares that this window pane originally came
from "Ellisland…"; the panel damaged and in a frame,
10in x 8in (25.4cm x 20.3cm).
Note: Robert Burns is known to have inscribed poetry lines
on architectural features including public house and other
windows, glasses and fireplaces.

774   Large scale model of the paddle steamer 'Duchess of Montrose',
96in (245cm) long
Note: John Brown of Glasgow built the original passenger-carrying vessel in 1902. The ‘Duchess’ was stationed at Ayr for excursions
but was later operated by the ‘Caledonian Steam Packet Co’ until
the outbreak of war in1914. She was used as a minesweeper and
was lost after hitting a mine of Gravelines (Belgian Coast)
on 18th March 1917.
Provenance: This model was on display in the National
Museum in West Sussex till it closed 3yrs ago.
It was listed (pictured) in Miller's in 1999/2000
