A Happy New Year

We would like to wish all our clients a Very Happy New Year

McTear's first auction this year takes place on Friday, the catalogue will appear here

2009 was an exciting year at McTear's with a real mix of high profile auctions, from record breaking specialist whisky sales to our innovative Peter Howson Drawings auction that saw record numbers at the Auction Galleries and online 'battle' for the artist's personal collection. The Scottish Contemporary Art auctions continue to feature works from most of Scotland's finest artists and have become an important part of the international art calendar.

Each year we progress further using the web as a key tool to inform our clients about the vast array of antiques and art coming up for auction. This is becoming more effective by making use of better visuals for lots in our up coming auctions. Our newsletters have been a hit with over 7000 subscribers signing up in 2009 alone.

Additionally, we added to the website a wanted items form allowing clients to inform us in advance of specific objects that they are keen to purchase. This facility has proved extremely popular though we intend to further enhance in early 2010 with McTear's FindIt, an automated lot finding service.

Although in many ways McTear's is a very traditional business, we are pushing forward this year with a number of technological and online initiatives, not only to add an improved service to buyers and sellers at McTear's, but also to add a little bit of excitement.

You will see very soon an improvement to the live bidding option with the introduction of McTear's LiveAuctions.

But number 1 on our list for 2010 is the introduction of Twitter, which is part of the social media toolbox. With Twitter we will be able to inform you of upcoming auctions, interesting finds, guess the unusual item or guess the item's year or value. This should be fun and we are expecting a great response and we have decided to make this a weekly or monthly competition, often with a prize, for the first correct answer.

If you are an experienced Tweeter follow us here. For those of you who are new to Twitter all you have to do is sign up for your Twitter account and start following McTear’s.

All the best for 2010 !
