What do we value and sell?
Our auction categories cover almost anything that you would expect [or even would not expect] to see at auction. The values of lots sold varies from under £50 to thousands of pounds and more. Always seek advice from us on the possibility of sale, as it can often be be that the least obvious object is the most saleable by auction. Furniture, Silver, Jewellery, Watches, Ceramics, Glass, Pictures, Vintage Vehicles, Collectables and much more are sold regularly at McTear's. Our valuers can offer professional advice on all these and other categories. The valuation of whisky, wine & port is undertaken by our renown expert Martin Green.Free Sales Advice
We offer friendly and confidential advice at our salerooms or we arrange free home visits for appraisals. We are experienced in valuations for insurance, probate and auction. Our valuation services are available all over the UK.Executries
We work with solicitors firms daily and offer a complete service to executors and trustees of estates. At this difficult time, dealing with the contents of a home can be both upsetting and time consuming. We offer sympathetic advice, prepare the necessary valuations, arrange delivery of any items to family members and then to sell the remainder by auction, ensuring the property is completely cleared, if required.Valuations
Written valuations for insurance, probate and other purposes are undertaken at competitive fees and in the strictest confidence. Please contact us for further details.Estimates & Reserve Prices
We are happy to advise on an estimated price for your goods, usually auctioneers discretion will be used or, for more valuable items, we may agree a fixed reserve price that will normally subject to just a small discretion. The Costs
The commission charged is 15% of the hammer price, no charge is made for insurance, unless of course your lot sells for £4000 or above - then NO COMMISSION is charged! For items that are entered into internationally marketed specialist and antiques auction, an illustrative charge of just £2 is made per lot. If items are to be collected by our removers, a collection cost will be involved that will be dependent on the time taken. All costs are subject to VAT.Payment
To allow for the collection of monies and clearance of cheques, payment is made to vendors usually in 4-6 weeks following the final sale by auction. Detailed statements will accompany the cheque.opening hours & directions | current catalogues | company history | sales calendar
