Filled into Spanish oak sherry casks January 1949, released into decanter August 1999. Distilled and bottled by The Macallan Distillers, Easter Elchies, Craigellachie. 750 ml. Caithness crystal decanter and stopper finished in copper, in fitted wooden presentation case. Single malt, 43% volume

Note: The three casks chosen for this bottling were each filled on 14th January 1949. These casks were tipped ready for marrying on 12th May 1999. Each cask contributed to a third of the vatting, character and only 48% of the original filling  was left after the angels share

Tasting note: On the nose: Richly phenolic, cloves, coriander, orange and lemons. Some apples, hints of cereals and complimentary wood. On the palate: Rich, smokey, peaty phenolics. Wood influence with dried fruits and citrus. Some resinous spice, cloves and coriander. The finish: Rich citrus and wood, enveloped with peat.

On Friday 23rd August, 2002, in appreciation of Andrew Usher’s outstanding talents, Kyndal Spirits invited 24 of Scotland’s Master Blenders to their offices in Glasgow. Each donated their own special 16 year-old blended sample which were subsequently blended to create this unique bottle. The Master Blend, signed by everyone present, is a true testament to the legacy of “Andrew Usher, Jr.”

A Once-only blend of exquisite 16 year-old Scotch Whiskies, created in immortal memory of Andrew Usher Jnr., Master Blender and Philanthropist. Andrew Usher is the Founding Father of Blended Scotch Whisky. Created to celebrate his life, 16th February 1826 to 1st November 1898. The bottle is accompanied by a framed and glazed certificate signed by the contributing blenders in August 2002 and the bottle is embossed in gold with the blenders names “Tom Aitken, Gilmour Burnet, Gordon Doctor, Eddie Drummond, Ian Grieve, Robert Hicks, Terry Hillman, Stewart Laing, Allan Lundie, Donald Mackinlay, Ewen Mackintosh, Norman Ewan, Jim Milne, Richard Paterson, John Smith, Mitchell Sorbie, Abby Stephen, David Stewart, Andrew Symington, Graham Taylor and Billy Walker”. Tasting Note and History: Only 40 bottles of The Macallan 60 year-old were produced. Incredibly rich, resinous, spicy and woody with a treacle toffee after taste balancing the rich dried fruit.  

To date, 12 bottles of 60 year-old Macallan have been labelled with an illustration by Peter Blake in 1986 with a further 12 labelled with an illustration by the contemporary Italian artist Valerio Adami in 1993 of which this bottle is an example.

The Macallan currently holds bottle Number 01 of the Blake
edition in its extensive archive with all other bottles held in private
collections around the world, in Japan, Italy, Singapore, USA, England and of course in Scotland
