The Gilded Age auction truly lived up to its name, delivering impressive results across a diverse range of silver, gold and luxury lots.
An 18ct gold mounted set of three pens by Royama was fit for a king or, rather, a sultan, bearing as they did the blazon of the Sultanate of Oman and went for £1,400 after an international bidding battle. The market for luxury goods remains buoyant with an Aspinal ‘Brit’ bag carrying on the Jubilee good feelings at £300 while Prada, Gucci and Alexander McQueen fashion accessories all sold strongly.
Delicate silver continues to appeal to an avid collecting base and a particularly fine Victorian ‘Castle Top’ vinaigrette by the respected maker Charles Deakin belied its size and weight to sell at an impressive £1,000. McTear’s continues to celebrate the modernist silver movement and few finer examples than the life-size and articulated crab caviar dish by the William Comyns firm have been seen at auction in recent years. It duly caught the eye of numerous interested parties with the hammer coming down at £4,000.
Consignments of antique and modernist silver, certified designer fashion and accessories, collectible pens, cigarette lighters and luxury goods are invited for our next auction taking place on 1st September.
