The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction

The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction

Date: 20th Jun, 2021 13:00
Lots: 300

The star of the day was undoubtedly Herbert Whone’s 'Glasgow Tram'. The picture, once owned by celebrity Johnny Beattie, generated great pre-auction interest and following fierce competition eventually sold for an impressive £13,000, a new record for the artist.

A stunningly detailed still life by Willem Dolphyn exceeded its pre-auction estimate of £500-£800 with a final hammer price of £1,800. Scottie Wilson's works sold well, with a rare oil making £4,000 against an estimate of £600-900. Works by Neil Dallas Brown have also had a successful trend in the saleroom as of late, with works by the artist stimulating widespread competition. The 300 lot sale finished strong with a small oil by Alfred Allan depicting Elie selling for £1,100, and a bronze plaque by Joan Miró £650.

The next auction of Scottish Contemporary Art takes place on 1 August, entries are currently invited. Advice on Scottish contemporary art is free and without obligation.
