UTAGAWA HIROSHIGE (JAPANESE 1797-1858) STATION 13:NUMAZU from the series The fifty three stations of Tôkaidô, depicting three travellers following the winding path along the Kise River towards Numazu. The last of the three carries the huge mask of Sarudahiko (god of the road) on his back. This identifies him as a pilgrim on his way to the Kompira Shrine where such masks were worn in processions. 22.5cm x 35.5cm mounted, framed and under glass
