GERT JYNGE (NORSK / NORWEGIAN 1904 - 1994),
PIPE RØKERE (THE PIPE SMOKERS)
gouache, signed and dated '42
44cm x 41cm
Mounted, framed and under glass
Note: Gert Jynge studerte ved Statens Kunstakademi fra 1929 til 1931 under Axel Revold. Note: Gert Jynge studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts from 1929 to 1931 under Axel Revold. There are not many paintings preserved from Jynge, and most of them are in public collections. Gynge was an important person for his generation of artists. Unlike Matisse students, who orientated themselves towards France, Gynge and Sigurd Winge looked to Germany and the radical German artists, and gained inspiration from German expressionism. Gynge kept up to date on the directions and isms on the continent, and became a focal point at the academy, where he held courses for his fellow students in painting technology disciplines and directions in the arts. A particularly important inspirator was Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, we find much of his powerful colour use and the simplification of the subject.
