Note: Ada Barclay was the daughter of society portraitist John Maclaren Barclay RSA (1811-1886). Ada became painter of landscapes and portraits, exhibiting at the Royal Scottish Academy from 1876 to 1886 before moving to India. As a child she was the model for William Brodie's 1869 marble sculpture "Scots Girl" (collection of The National Gallery of Scotland).
