DARBY'S HARD, GORLESTON, AN OIL BY IAN HOUSTON

* IAN HOUSTON (BRITISH b 1934 - ),
DARBY'S HARD, GORLESTON
oil on board, signed; titled verso
28cm x 40cm
Framed
Artist label verso.
Note: If places could tell a story, surely Darby's Hard on Gorleston riverside is perfectly placed to have chronicled the developments in, and changes to, the port of Great Yarmouth while remaining comparatively unaltered itself. Long before the name was bestowed upon it when the Darby family of shipwrights and boat repairers occupied it in the 19th century, it was silently observing the harbour scene. Darby's Hard is a very small section of land near the mouth of the River Yare on the Gorleston side, extending a short distance along the bank above the high water mark and below the foot of the cliff - a strip of ground about 12 yards wide, along which Riverside Road runs.

A condition report is offered as an indication of any issues visible to the naked eye. As none of our staff is a professional conservator or restorer, buyers must satisfy themselves in respect of condition and McTear’s can provide contact details of local professionals who can provide fully comprehensive expert reports, usually for a modest charge. The condition report does not form part of any contract between McTear's and the buyer, and all lots are offered "as is" in accordance with our Terms of Business available on our website.
