Note: Madeleine Hand was born in Motherwell in 1959. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1981, where she specialised in illustration. Her work has a strong individual and recognisable style; it is defined by an immaculate sense of line and colour, coupled with an unerring eye for making the everyday moments of life beautiful. Madeleine loves the paintings of the 1940s and has been inspired by the work of Eric Ravilious and Evelyn Dunbar. She has been commissioned to produce work for Scottish Ballet, Ivor Cutler, Dunkeld Records and Perth Festival of the Arts. Widely exhibited across Britain, she now lives and works in Perthshire. In 1981 Madeleine was awarded a Travelling Scholarship to Portugal and was appointed Community Artist at The Pierce Institute in 1982. Exhibitions include: The Atholl Gallery, The Strathearn Gallery, The Birnham Institute, Frames Gallery, The Tolquhon Gallery, The Whitehouse Gallery, The Fisher Gallery, The Thistle Gallery, The Leaping Hare Gallery (Suffolk) and her work has been shown at The Royal Scottish Academy (Edinburgh). The Royal Glasgow Institute and The Affordable Art Fair (London).

A condition report is offered as an indication of any issues visible to the naked eye. As none of our staff is a professional conservator or restorer, buyers must satisfy themselves in respect of condition and McTear’s can provide contact details of local professionals who can provide fully comprehensive expert reports, usually for a modest charge.
