oil on canvas, signed and dated, titled label verso
51cm x 61cm (20 x24 inches)

Label verso Aitken Dott & Son Edinburgh.
Note: Hislop trained at the Edinburgh College of Art. He and his parents lived in a house named 'Summerside' on Pentland Avenue in Colinton, Edinburgh. He graduated with a Diploma in Drawing and Painting in 1909 and served on the staff from 1911-12. During World War 1 he was killed in the Gallipoli Campaign on 28 April 1915 (aged 28).. Hislop painted portraits and landscapes particularly around Edinburgh and East Lothian. Unsurprisingly after such a tragically short career his work rarely appears on the market. Autumn Sunset , Colinton Dell shows strong influences of artists such as James Paterson and Charles Hodge Mackie.
