THE RED PARASOL 1928, AN OIL BY ALEXANDER HAMILTON SCOTT

ALEXANDER HAMILTON SCOTT (SCOTTISH 1876 – 1944),
THE RED PARASOL 1928
oil on canvas signed and dated, titled label verso
64cm x 76cm (25 x 30 inches)
Framed.
Label verso: T& R Annan & Sons Ltd., Glasgow
Partial label verso: James Connell and Sons Ltd., Glasgow.
Note: Alexander Hamilton Scott studied at Paisley School of Art and went on to become an architect. However, he continued to study painting at the Glasgow & West of Scotland Technical College and Glasgow School of Art 1897-1900 and again in 1902-03. “The Red Parasol 1928” almost certainly depicts a beach somewhere on the West coast of Scotland and shows the very strong influence of the Scottish Colourists, particularly Cadell, Peploe and Maclauchlan Milne. His paintings are rare and few have appeared at auction. A landscape sold at Sotheby's Gleneagles, 29th August 2007, lot 111, (£6,240, premium) and another at McTear's, 5th September 2013, lot 1719 (£2,600, hammer).

A condition report is offered as an indication of any issues visible to the naked eye. As none of our staff is a professional conservator or restorer, buyers must satisfy themselves in respect of condition and McTear’s can provide contact details of local professionals who can provide fully comprehensive expert reports, usually for a modest charge. The condition report does not form part of any contract between McTear's and the buyer, and all lots are offered "as is" in accordance with our Terms of Business available on our website.
