IMPORTANT INTERNAZIONALE (INTER MILAN) SHIRT,
believed to be Mauro Bicicli's from 1966/67 season, emboridered gilt bullion star over the Italian shield for the Scudetto, stitched number 10 to the reverse, 'atalasport' label
Note: This important Inter Milan shirt was gifted to the Glasgow-based vendor by a Celtic player when they were a young child. They have had it in their possession since the 70s and are now deciding to offer it for sale.
According to information supplied by the vendor, they believe the shirt to have been worn during the European Cup final vs. Celtic F.C. on the 25th May 1967. As there is no firm provenance, McTear's can offer no guarantee in that respect.
During the 1966/67 season, Inter would famously play Celtic during a heated battle in Lisbon which saw the Glasgow club become the first British side to lift the European Cup. The Lisbon Lions were thence imortalised in the global canon of sporting achievement, a team of eleven local lads all born within a 30-mile radius of Celtic Park, Paradise. The Hoops would triumph over Helenio Herrera's infamous 'catanacio-playing' Grande-Inter by going out to attack, with goals from Gemmel and Chalmers ensuring a 2-1 victory, 'they won the big cup and they brought it back, it was the first time it had been on British shores'...
This important shirt is believed to be one of Mauro Bicicli's from that season, a stalwart of Herrera's Grande-Inter with over 150 appearances in three spells at the club.
