David Iain Brown is a Glasgow-based contemporary artist with a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Art Practice and a Master’s in Fine Art from Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen. Originally a printmaker, Brown transitioned into painting, bringing a precise and process-driven approach to his work. His practice is rooted in transformation, where studio remnants—torn rags, discarded works, and repurposed textiles—are reassembled into bold, abstract compositions. Brown’s work explores deconstruction and reconstruction, pushing the limits of materiality to create layered pieces that are both meditative and dynamic, inviting viewers to uncover the intricate complexities of contemporary abstraction.
