GLEN COE, AN OIL BY ALFRED ALLAN

* ALFRED ALLAN,
GLEN COE
oil on canvas, signed, titled label verso
image size 61cm x 76cm, overall size 70cm x 85cm
Framed.
Artist's label verso.
Note: Alfred Allan also paints under the name Allan Nelson. He is a well-known artist living in Fife and he paints the surrounding areas. His vibrant beach scenes (signed Nelson) are enthusiastically collected as are his more conventional paintings which he usually signs "Allan". The two most recent examples of Alfred Allan's work to feature in our auctions sold for hammer prices of £850 & £1100 and both were smaller than half the size of "Glen Coe".
The Pass of Glen Coe was used as the location for "The Bridge of Death" and "The Gorge of Eternal Peril" in filming Monty Python and the Holy Grail, attracting Monty Python pilgrims. Sets for the third Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban were built near to the bottom of Clachaig Gully, north of the Clachaig Inn. There are also some shots of the eastern glen, including Buachaille Etive Mòr in the Bollywood film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and in the James Bond blockbuster film Skyfall.

A condition report is offered as an indication of any issues visible to the naked eye. As none of our staff is a professional conservator or restorer, buyers must satisfy themselves in respect of condition and McTear’s can provide contact details of local professionals who can provide fully comprehensive expert reports, usually for a modest charge. The condition report does not form part of any contract between McTear's and the buyer, and all lots are offered "as is" in accordance with our Terms of Business available on our website.
