FERGUS MCCANN OF CELTIC FOOTBALL CLUB, HIS ORIGINAL DIRECTORS' BOX CHAIR

THE DIRECTORS' BOX CHAIR OF FERGUS MCCANN, CELTIC F.C.
upholstered deep green button back vinyl, the hinged seat with plaques to the underside inscribed 'FERGUS McCANN' and numbered '13', on the original cast iron column support removed from Celtic Park, 78cm high

Note: Scottish-Canadian businessman, Fergus McCann, is a legendary figure amongst the Celtic faithful. Upon acquiring a 51% stake in the company in 1994, he went on to bring the club back from the brink of financial ruin.

At the beginning of his tenure, McCann's abrasive manner, coupled with a preoccupation for building a sustainable infrastructure off the field rather than a title-winning one on it, prompted sustained criticism. Although credited with rescuing the club from imminent bankruptcy, McCann stated at the outset that he would only stay for five years, with the objectives of placing the club on a firmer business footing and returning the league championship to Celtic Park. The latter goal was met in 1998, halting rivals Rangers in their quest for ten consecutive titles. The legacy of his second goal is still felt today, with McCann's tenure serving as the solid foundation upon which the club has built its current success, truly bringing it into the modern age.

His legendary status has since been secured, with many still affectionately referring to McCann as 'the Bunnet', due to his penchant for that style of headwear.

This seat was originally sold by auction, for £800, at an evening event held in 1999 in aid of the Beatson Oncology Centre.

All proceeds from the sale of this lot, including the auction house buyers premium, are being donated to The Beatson Cancer Charity.
