* STANLEY ROYLE RCA RBA ARWEA (BRITISH 1888 - 1961), A RELIC OF THE PAST oil on canvas, signed and dated 1922, titled verso 70cm x 90cm Framed Provenance: ''Stanley Royle, Catalogue of His Works'' by Timothy Dickson (144). Exhibited Royal Glasgow Institute 1922 No 424. Literature: Glasgow Evening Times 2nd October 1922. Note: The setting for the painting is Dobbin Hill Farm, Bent's Green, Sheffield and the figure in the foreground is Florence Haslam who lived at the farm with her husband. Stanley Royle produced his best work during the early 1920s, including 'The Goose Girl' (National Gallery of Ireland) and 'A Winter's Evening' (Owens Art Gallery, Sackville, Canada) and all of these paintings clearly show the influence of James Guthrie upon the English artist.
