Note: Glencairn Church, Moniaive. An ‘A’ Listed gothic church situated in the small hamlet of Kirkland, 2 miles east of the village of Moniaive. Built in 1836, the church is of traditional design and is constructed of whinstone with sandstone dressings under a slate roof. Note 2: James Paterson was a Scottish landscape and portrait painter associated with The Glasgow Boys. Paterson studied at the Glasgow School of Art under Robert Greenlees and subsequently in Paris. This painting was executed at the beginning of his Moniaive period (1884 to 1906) and gifted to the local Minister at Glencairn Church, where James Paterson and his family are understood to have worshipped.
