THE DOCHART VALLEY, PERTHSHIRE, AN OIL BY LOUIS BOSWORTH HURT

LOUIS BOSWORTH HURT (BRITISH 1856 - 1929),
THE DOCHART VALLEY, PERTHSHIRE
oil on canvas, signed and dated 1904, titled in presentation plaque
image size 41cm x 67cm, overall size 54cm x 80cm
Framed.
Label verso: Anthony Woodd Gallery, Dundas Street, Edinburgh.
Provenance: a Private Collection from the Scottish Borders.
Note: Glen Dochart is a wide tranquil and breathtakingly beautiful glen (valley) which runs from Crianlarich in the west to Killin and Loch Tay in the East. The River Dochart runs along this glen from the small but lovely Loch Dochart near Crianlarich to Killin where it plunges spectacularly through Killin at the Falls of Dochart, then flows into Loch Tay. A little further to the east, there is a magnificent and secluded seven mile walk through a mountain pass to Balquhidder which emerges beside the church and graveyard where Rob Roy McGregor was buried with his wife Mary and his two sons Coll and Robert. Glen Dochart is little changed since Rob Roy walked its paths in the early 1700s.
