Note: Gordon Menzies studied printmaking and illustration at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee from 1969-1973, and went on to work under Stanley William Hayter in his Atelier 17 Paris studio. He moved to Iona in 1978 and set up the Iona Gallery and Pottery in 1982. His work has been strongly influenced by the Iona land and seascapes and by Japanese art. For his ceramics he makes both handbuilt pieces and thrown stoneware pottery. Much of his pottery is decorated in colours and brushwork evoking Iona seascapes. He works in pastels or watercolours for his landscapes. The colours of his work are subtle and soft.
A condition report is offered as an indication of any issues visible to the naked eye. As none of our staff is a professional conservator or restorer, buyers must satisfy themselves in respect of condition and McTear’s can provide contact details of local professionals who can provide fully comprehensive expert reports, usually for a modest charge. The condition report does not form part of any contract between McTear's and the buyer, and all lots are offered "as is" in accordance with our Terms of Business available on our website.
