Provenance: Exhibited at The Royal Scottish Academy 1873 Annual Exhibition no 824.
Note: Samuel Edmonston was an Edinburgh artist of note. Between 1845 and 1887 no fewer than 167 of his paintings were exhibited at the RSA. He painted in watercolours and oils and his watercolours now appear at auction infrequently and when they do, very few are in the fine condition of "Glen Sannox, Arran". The most recent example of his oil paintings to be offered at auction was "The Fisherman's Return" (a 61 x 96cm oil on board) which sold at Adams, Dublin on 13th October 2020 for 8000 Euros (lot 779).
