Michaela Medea mainly creates portraits of fictional people. She experiments with different techniques and carrier materials. As different as the medium and tools are, all the portraits have one thing in common: they seem to elude the viewer. The people portrayed look past us or through us, their facial features are almost expressionless. With her work, Michaela Medea creates various areas of tension. She uses faces as the setting for our own feelings. It creates a space for the interpersonal. The viewers have to deal with the picture and themselves at the same time. By confronting us with a fictional person with an expressionless face and a blank stare, she forces us to reflect on our own emotions.
