COPPER WHALE SCULPTURE
whale, whaling boat and two spheres
copper with verdigris, steel and wooden base, unsigned and undated
60cm high and 60cm wide.
Note: Probably an artisan piece and in the manner of George Wyllie MBE and possibly George Parsonage MBE. Although whaling in now considered to be a controversial trade, for many centuries it was a vital element of the Scottish economy. The two main Scottish ports were Dundee and Peterhead but Greenock and other ports also had significant whaling fleets.
