Note: Painter, mainly in oil, especially of elegant interiors and of flowers. Born in Brighton, Sussex, he initially studied furniture design at Bath School of Art, and he continued to practise as a designer and architect there for about 10 years from the mid-1890s. Then in London studied painting with J M Swan and Frank Brangwyn. Exhibited prolifically, including RA, RBA, ROI, RSW, Goupil Gallery and Leicester Galleries. At the Paris Salon won a silver medal, having won both gold and silver medals for furniture design at the Paris International Exhibition, 1900. Was for a time president of the PS, as well as the Bath Society of Artists. Represented in Victoria & Albert Museum and in many British provincial and overseas galleries. His work is well shown in Paintings and Poems, which he published, with poems by Lady Margaret Sackville, in 1944. Thirty-three of his paintings are held in UK public collections.
