50 year-old Dalmore

Whisky matures slowly in oak casks, stacked in cool, dark, dunnage warehouses; but even in a relatively cold country, like Scotland, alcohol will evaporate away over time. This is known as “the angel’s share”, and although some distilleries are now pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in terms of cask aging, expressions over 40 years old are still as rare as the proverbial hen’s teeth.

That makes this venerable, old Dalmore all the more impressive. Ostensibly a 50-year-old, it contains some much older whisky drawn from a vatting of casks that reputedlycontain spirit distilled as early as 1868. Expertly crafted by Dalmore’s Master Blender, Richard “The Nose” Paterson, the whisky contained within these elegant, 10cl crystal decanters is sure to be exquisite. And, with only 191 ever produced it represents one of the rarest propositions in the whisky world.
