Presenting Armies of Renown | Jamie Farquhar’s Warhammer Collection

02/06/2025     General News, Toys & Pop Culture

This auction brings into the global domain the colossal Warhammer 40,000 Iron Warriors army collected, converted and painted by the late Jamie Farquhar.

Jamie had an insatiable hunger for converting and painting, coupled with an extraordinary talent, which was recognised by collectors and experts in this world of Warhammer. Since c.2000 Jamie collected six Iron Warrior Armies, each one being rebuilt and assimilated into the next to create one mighty collection.

Jamie Farquhar was a Rock of Stirling, born in 1986. In 2013, Jamie moved to Dunblane with his mother. Dunblane was special to him. Jamie had a workspace set up at home where he painted, converted and displayed his vast collection. A regular at gaming events and tournaments including Warhammer World, Nottingham, Jamie was often nominated for Best Painted Army, winning the accolade on a number of occasions.

Over the years, as well as painting for his own collection, Jamie’s business, Jamie F Modelmaker, took on commissions to paint and convert Games Workshop models. Jamie was also known online as Iron-Daemon Forge (Facebook - Iron-Daemon Forge), (Instagram – @irondaemonforgevixi) (Twitter/X – @DaemonIron) and Bolterandchainsword.

As many Warhammer fans will know, Jamie sadly passed away in August 2024. Jamie’s mother, with the support of Jamie’s sister and close friends, allows McTear’s to present the collection at auction, her hope being that other hobbyists around the world will gain as much enjoyment from her son's models as he did.

Jamie’s collection, in his own words:

Building and converting miniatures is one of my favourite parts of the hobby and every model in the army is converted whether it is a simple head-swap or a full-blown kit-bash. For me, converting models is a way to personalise my miniatures and make everyone stand out from the crowd. One of my favourite ways to convert models is to add trophies to them, but every trophy has to be won on the field of battle – it’s not just a meaningless trinket mounted on a spike. Every Tyranid skull, Eldar head or Ultramarine helmet represents a battle that I have fought with my army and there’s a story behind every one of them, reminding me of the games I have played and the fun times I’ve had using my army. I’ve even had hobbyists come up to me at Throne of Skulls events and point out the kill trophies that represent a game I fought against them, which inevitably leads to us reminiscing about the battle. Curiously, many of them actually seem pleased to have their army represented as a grisly trophy on one of my models.

Jamie's work featured in White Dwarf, Games Workshop's magazine, where his skill was recognised and his models were shown.

In July 2022, Jamie was honoured to be asked if the White Dwarf magazine could use his Iron Warrior Army and if he could build and paint other Iron Warrior figures for an article in the magazine - the Herald of Misery series, the setting for the Arks of Omen. The original three pivotal characters Jamie was asked to create for the article were Warsmith Czagra, of the Iron Warriors, Mekranteer and Kahrbol Mandrax. These models featured in the White Dwarf magazine, are now home in Warhammer World. Jamie’s unique talent in researching, building and painting meant he perfectly created the models to represent the characters in the story.

McTear’s is pleased to honour Jamie’s memory with this single-owner collection, allowing the models expertly crafted by this talented young man to enter Warhammer collections all over the world and embark on new battles.

More About Jamie's Collection

Each model in Jamie's Iron Warriors collection has been meticulously painted and, in many cases, extensively converted, representing Jamie's deep understanding and love of Warhammer 40,000 lore. Jamie collected many different armies, but Iron Warriors were his true passion. His collection comprised over 800 miniatures, every one of them personalised in some way. This army is, without a doubt, a labour of love that was several decades in the making.

There are two distinct sections to this gigantic collection. The first is Jamie's classic force, which consists of Chaos Space Marine miniatures from the 2000 through to around 2017. These miniatures are painted in the traditional silver and brass armour of the Iron Warriors Legion, and adorned with black and yellow chevrons. The other half of the collection was painted more recently and includes projects up to 2024. According to Jamie, 98% of the models in this collection were converted in some way, whether with unique bases, new heads or helmets, arm or weapon swaps. Many also feature trophies - Jamie often added these to his models at a later date to show which armies he had fought. Many of his regular opponents had 'trophies' in their army colours presented on Jamie's miniatures. In 2023, Jamie played his 1,000th game with his Iron Warriors army at Warhammer World - a clear indication of his deep commitment to the IV Legion.

Jamie's Iron Warriors have won Best Painted awards at numerous tournaments and gaming events over the years, most notably at Warhammer World in Nottingham, where he has won both Best Painted and Staff Choice awards. A number of Jamie's miniatures have been featured on the Hobby Roundup – Games Workshop's Warhammer Community Twitch stream. Most impressively, models from both armies have been featured in the pages of White Dwarf - Games Workshop's monthly publication. Jamie's classic force was featured in 2013, while his second was showcased during 2023 as part of the Arks of Omen story arc. In total, they were featured in eight magazines over the course of the story, including in two battle reports that formed part of the outcome for the story. This makes these miniatures a genuine piece of Warhammer history, enshrined in Warhammer 40,000 lore for all time.

Each model in Jamie's Space Wolves collection has been lovingly painted and, in many cases, extensively converted, representing Jamie's deep understanding and love of Warhammer 40,000 lore. There are two eras to this sizeable collection. The first is his classic force, which consists of Firstborn Space Marine miniatures. They are painted wearing dark grey power armour with the Great Company symbol picked out in red on the left shoulder pad. The other half of the collection is made up of Primaris Marines. These are painted in blue-grey power armour, also with the Great Company symbol picked out in red, this time using Forge World Space Wolves Legion transfers. Both armies have been nominated for Best Painted awards at various tournaments and gaming events over the years and several of the miniatures have been featured on the Hobby Roundup – Games Workshop's Warhammer Community Twitch stream.

Each model in Jamie's Black Templars collection has been lovingly painted and, in many cases, extensively converted, representing Jamie's deep understanding and love of Warhammer 40,000 lore. Like many of Jamie's armies, these Black Templars have been nominated for Best Painted awards at various tournaments and gaming events over the years and several of the miniatures have been featured on the Hobby Roundup – Games Workshop's Warhammer Community Twitch stream.

Each model in Jamie's Chaos Daemons of Khorne collection has been lovingly painted and, in many cases, extensively converted, representing Jamie's deep understanding and love of Warhammer 40,000 lore. This collection is made up of a horde of Khorne Daemons painted in the traditional blood and brass of the Blood God. It also includes several heavily converted daemon engines, including a Soul Grinder and a Skull Cannon. Though the army was originally intended for Warhammer 40,000, it could be converted to Warhammer Age of Sigmar pretty easily. The army has been nominated for Best Painted awards at various tournaments and gaming events over the years and several of the miniatures have been featured on the Hobby Roundup – Games Workshop's Warhammer Community Twitch stream.

Each model in Jamie's World Eaters collection has been lovingly painted and, in many cases, extensively converted, representing Jamie's deep understanding and love of Warhammer 40,000 lore. These World Eaters are painted in the classic red, brass and bone of the Traitor Legion, with no shortage of blood splattered on them (as is to be expected!). Like many of Jamie's armies, these World Eaters have been nominated for Best Painted awards at various tournaments and gaming events over the years and several of the miniatures have been featured on the Hobby Roundup – Games Workshop's Warhammer Community Twitch stream.
