A glorious grouse

29/01/2019     Silver

McTear’s was delighted to present an impressive Italian silver grouse in the Silver Auction on 31 January. Consigned by a private vendor, the grouse was made by the Italian silversmith Miracoli. Known for exceptional quality, the company began in 1912 and has since enjoyed much success due to their continued attention to detail and exceptional designs that have stood the test of time

Lot 808 appealed to nature enthusiasts, bird lovers and collectors of all things remarkable. At 28.5cm tall, the object is physically impressive, while the workmanship demonstrates a fineness of quality, making the bird appear to be truly mid stride. With red painted brows, the grouse is an extraordinary objet d’art, sure to act as a conversation starter. He brought much pre auction interest and competitive bidding at the auction, with the hammer finally falling to a bidder based in the North of Scotland for an impressive £1700.
