Dorethea Sharp soars in price at Glasgow auction

The British and International Pictures Auction this March offered the usual range of diverse and collectable artworks from home and abroad, generating a range of hammer prices including a small but beautiful oil on panel by Dorothea Sharp (lot 35) which achieved £3,400 hammer. Bernardus Johannes Blommer’s elaborate oil on canvas, The Net Menders (lot 109) attracted a lot of attention over the weekend’s viewing and went on to achieve a hammer price of £3,000, whilst a beautiful depiction of the Cutty Sark by Henry Scott (lot 27) achieved £1,700.
There was extremely strong bidding for Archibald Thorburn’s, Beach with Ringed Plover, Sandpiper and Oyster Catcher (lot 116) which surpassed its higher estimate by achieving £2,000. There was fierce bidding for the nineteenth century Indian School portrait of a man (lot 12), which achieved well over its higher estimate achieving £800 hammer.

As we move into the glorious days of spring, it was the ideal time to buy James Stuart Park’s delicate depictions of roses and daffodils (lots 114, 113 and 137), which sold for £900, £1000 and £1,100 respectively.
