The gorgeous green peridot may be the August birthstone, but there is certainly more than one way to embrace the colour this month at McTear’s. The Jewellery Auction on 12 August features a bounty of glorious green pieces, to suit all tastes and budgets. For the traditionalists, of course, there’s even some peridot too.
One especially lovely piece is a diamond and green enamel heart motif pendant by Cartier (lot 4). The pendant bears a green machined enamelled front with an overlaid diamond set decoration in the form of two sceptres through a circle. This lovely piece reflects the light beautifully and is especially eye-catching. This piece is sure to attract competition, with an auction estimate of £800–1,200.
For an elegant flash of colour with a little less glitz, lot 10 is a green hardstone set brooch with a marquise-shaped section of green hardstone. This lovely green brooch comes with an auction estimate of £180–220.
The enchanting emerald could scarcely be forgotten amongst even the loveliest green gems, and lot 6 features a beautiful emerald and diamond ring. The impressive central step-cut rectangular emerald bequests a striking flash of colour to any finger, whilst four round brilliant cut diamonds which flank the stone, within openwork crescent-shaped sections, add a sparkling, elegant touch. This little sparkler boasts an auction estimate of £1,200–1,800.
Not to be forgotten, this month’s birthstone is perfectly represented with a handsome peridot and diamond ring (lot 199). With an oval peridot measuring 11mm long poised upon sparkling bifurcated diamond set shoulders, it’s difficult to imagine a more perfect way to celebrate an August birthday. With an auction estimate of £400- 600, this is sure to prove popular when it goes under the hammer on 12 August.
