Gorgeous Geometry

28/05/2019     Jewellery

Definitely one of the most easily identifiable styles in jewellery, Art Deco pieces are often the most sought after items in McTear’s dedicated Jewellery Auctions. Lot 9 (£300-500) ticks all the design boxes: bold geometric shape, simple design and a classic colour combination. The ring features a central emerald cut blue gem surrounded by rose cut diamonds - a traditional cut of stone that remained popular into the era, but one that was soon overtaken by the now famous round brilliant cut.

The ring bears no hallmarks so, somewhat frustratingly, we cannot assign a maker to the piece. There is no need to be concerned however; it was very common for jewellery not to be marked in that period, and we can assume that the ring may be French, certainly European, in origin. Historically interesting and quite beautiful, the ring is sure to be popular at the auction on 6 June, commencing at 10.30am.
