Hammer Highlights!

21/05/2019     Jewellery

The Jewellery Auction at McTear’s on Sunday 19 May was one that feature some very special pieces, the printed catalogue cover item being one.

This Belle Époque brooch (lot 3) set all over with diamonds sold for an impressive £12,000 including buyers fees. The buyer was a room bidder who travelled from Edinburgh for the auction.

The interest in older items didn’t stop there - lot 263, an unmounted old cut diamond, achieved £5000, and was won by the same Scottish bidder.

The auction was not completely dominated by diamonds. Lot 2, a coveted natural sapphire and diamond ring with certificate, was won by a telephone bidder who faced competition from online and the saleroom, selling finally for £2000.

Lot 303 was a striking opal and diamond ring which made £1200 and went to a commission bidder.

Thinking of attending an auction? Come along and enjoy the buzz of the sale - the next Jewellery Auction takes place on Wednesday 5th June, followed by Sunday 30th June. See you there!
