His & hers

18/09/2018     Watches

It is a common thing for couples to have matching items of jewellery or clothing. In recent years, however, the trend has moved from matching outfits to matching watches. Celebrity couples such as the Beckhams have been no strangers to matching outfits and are regularly spotted wearing his and hers timepieces – most favourably, Rolex watches.

Often, the lady’s version is smaller than the gentleman’s watch, and usually has most of the same characteristics such as dial colour and bracelet style. In the upcoming Watches Auction on 25 September, there is a perfect example of a his & hers watch set.

Lot 800 (Estimate £1000 - £2000) is a lady’s Rolex Datejust with white dial and baton hour markers on a bicolour jubilee strap. This is a smaller version of the gentleman’s watch at lot 801.

Lot 801 is a gentleman’s Rolex Datejust which also has a white dial and jubilee strap. The only difference between these watches is that the gentleman’s version has Roman numeral hour markers. Estimate £2000 - £3000.

Hard to come by, these his and hers watches are sure to make a perfect set for a couple of budding Beckhams.
