Knight in Shining Armour

11/10/2018     Furniture & Works of Art

A rare miniature suit of armour (lot 1669) by prestigious French makers Kretly will be coming to sale in our next Militaria auction (12 October), providing collectors of curios and Medieval mementos alike a chance to own their own knight in shining armour.

Kretly of Paris, who were based at 46 Palais Royal from the mid-19th century, were a world-renown company who specialised in medals, particularly those for members of prestigious orders (a number of which have come to sale in recent years.) Whilst collectors may be familiar with the Kretly’s range of medals, this miniature suit of armour is a rare find, and one which conveys the quality of product and prestige for which the company is known.

If suits of armour are your thing, lot 1671 may be another lot of note. The early 20th-century silver plated figure of a knight is another charming piece, and the perfect accompaniment to the Bretby piece.
