For those Elvis Presley fans out there, lot 1621 in the upcoming Works of Art, Medals & Militaria & Furniture Auction offers a rare chance to own some of The King’s earliest releases. Comprising three records on the Sun label, ‘Mystery Train/I Forgot to Remember to Forget’ (78 r.p.m.), ‘I’m Left, You’re Right, She’s Gone/Baby Let’s Play House’ (45 r.p.m.), and ‘Mystery Train/I Forgot to Remember to Forget’ (this time at 45 r.p.m.), this lot really is a certified piece of Rock’n’Roll history!

The Sun label was famously founded by Sam Phillips in Memphis, Tennessee in 1952, and was to be the first company to record such greats as Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and (most importantly) Elvis Presley. He went on to record at least 24 songs in their studio between 1953–55, and the records in lot 1621 were amongst the last recorded before he was to sign to RCA Victor for $35,000, an extraordinary sum at the time!

So, a Little Less Conversation a little more action, don’t be a Hound Dog, and Bossa Nova down to the auction on 16 March! It’s Now or Never, or else you may be All Shook Up!

Handsome furniture and sculpture, bronzes, ivories and treen, textiles and costume, along with sporting memorabilia, arms and armour, rugs and carpets, feature in this auction.
