Mellow  Yellow

03/04/2018     Jewellery

Yellow diamonds are given their unmistakeable colour due to the presence of nitrogen in their chemical structure. Coloured diamonds are incredibly rare due to the very small numbers that are mined per year. To break it down, it is estimated that around 133 million carats worth of rough diamonds are mined each year. Of this incredibly vast number, it is thought that only around 1300 carats of this figure would be of a fancy colour.

Lot 206 in the Jewellery Auction on 8 April is a 1.99 carat oval cut yellow diamond ring. The addition of white diamonds to this ring help to showcase and draw the eye to the pale yellow stone. Certificated by WGI, this is graded as a natural fancy light yellow diamond with a clarity grade of SI1. This is estimated at £9000 – £13,000.
