Rolex Hammer Highlights

McTear’s dedicated Rolex auction saw in house record set for a Daytona watch – lot 751 was an example from 2001 and sold for a staggering £18,500 including fees to a buyer competing on the phone from the south of England.

In order to secure a brand new Daytona, the potential buyer has to be placed on a waiting list with an authorised Rolex dealer. With the demand for these timepieces at an all-time high and waiting lists growing longer, even getting on to one of these lists is no guarantee of getting the opportunity buy one. It is easy to understand the demand for these watches pre-owned at auction.

The top-selling vintage watch was lot 760, a Rolex GMT ‘Pepsi’ watch, this made £9000 including fees after competition from three phone bidders and the internet. It eventually sold to a local buyer bidding in the room.
