The Heart of Glasgow

Christmas is right around the corner and many men are still frantically searching for the perfect gift to give to their good lady this Christmas. With the perfect opportunity to present her with something spectacular, old mine cut diamonds make the perfect gift.

Old mine cut diamonds have been in existence for around 300 years and up until the early 1900’s all diamonds were measured by eye then cut and faceted by hand. This would involve diamond cutters following the shape of the natural diamond crystal and grinding two diamonds together to achieve the desired shape. This makes each old mine cut diamond existing today truly unique with no two diamonds being uniform in size or shape.

Lot 393 in the 15 December Jewellery auction is a late nineteenth century diamond locket set with old mine cut diamonds totalling approximately 4.50 carats. These diamonds boast a level of sparkle and brilliance that no other diamond or even the fairy lights on the Christmas tree can match. The display of fire and brilliance that they produce is down to the fact that they were cut to shine by candlelight which makes this perfect for wearing during the festive season.  Estimated at £4000 - £6000, this comes in a fitted blue velvet case retailed by Aird and Thomson of Glasgow.

Over 100 years have passed since this items creation but yet it has returned to its home turf to prove that this heart really does belong to Glasgow.
